Eugene R. Kurtz

1943- 2016

 

Eugene R. Kurtz, 72, of Watertown, passed away on Friday afternoon, July 22, 2016, at Rainbow Hospice Inpatient Center in Johnson Creek, surrounded by his loving family.

 

Eugene R. Kurtz was born on Aug. 12, 1943, in Watertown, the son of Clarence and Elsie (Thrun) Kurtz.  He was a 1961 graduate of Watertown High School.  Gene was a member of the United States Army.  On March 6, 1971, he married the former Beverly Blank at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Watertown.  Gene had been employed at Motor Transport, Allard Express and Watertown Metals, retiring in 2010.  He was an avid Sunday football fan.  He loved spending time at the cottage in Glidden.  Gene and Bev enjoyed trips to the casino.

 

Gene is survived by his wife Beverly of Watertown; eight children, Patty (Pat) Moretti of Janesville, Debbie (Duane) Strauss of Watertown, David (Gail) Bates of Watertown, Denise (Eugene) Yogerst of Mayville, Daniel Bates, Brian (Laura) Bates, Craig Kurtz and Brent (Kari) Kurtz, all of Watertown; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Harvey (Marlene) Kurtz of Madison; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Linda DePlover; three brothers, Robert, Kenneth and Donald Kurtz; and two sisters, Doris Appenfeldt and Beverly Behling.

 

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Hafemeister Funeral Home in Watertown with the Rev. Ron Kral of the Christ United Methodist Church in Watertown officiating.  Visitation will be on Thursday at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until the time of the service.  Burial with military graveside rites will be Friday morning at 10 a.m. at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Watertown.
