Carlton Clemans

1919 – 2008

 

Carlton “Carl” A. Clemans, 89, of Watertown, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008, at St. Mary's Care Center, Madison, surround by his loving family.  Carl was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends.

 

Carl was born on Dec. 4, 1919, in Watertown, the son of Albert and Lottie (Shears) Clemans.  He was a graduate of Watertown High School.  He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater and was a POW in Munich, Germany, for 10 months.  He married Lorraine Froemming on June 6, 1942, she passed away on June 7, 1973.  He later married Jean Stevens on June 16, 1979.  Carl was a clerk at Tetzlaff Pharmacy for many years and also worked for the city of Watertown Street Department for many years, retiring in 1984.  He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church and a life member of Watertown American Legion Post 189.

 

Survivors include his wife, Jean Clemans of Watertown; two daughters, Cheryl (Jerry) Heiman of Watertown and Mary Zander of Oregon, Wis.; stepdaughter, Dorothy (Dr. Joseph) Pucci of Waukesha; eight grandchildren, Brenda (Cory Mears) Zander, Joy (Darrin) O'Brien, Nick Zander, Chad (Julia) Heiman, Vicki (fiancé Brian) Heiman, June (Frank) Rogers, Shae (Greg) Medd and Brant (Nicole) Allen; seven great-grandchildren; also a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Lorraine; daughter Carla; sisters Loretta Schmidt and Bernice “Peg” Marshall; and a son-in-law Larry Zander.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Mark's Lutheran Church School Fund, St. Mary's Care Center Madison or the charity of one's choice.

 

Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Watertown, with the Rev. Karl Walther officiating. Burial, with military graveside rites by American Legion Post 189, will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Watertown.

 

Visitation will be on Sunday 1 p.m. until the time of service at the church.
