Wayne King Bringing Band Here on Feb. 6
Famous Maestro to Play for Dance at Turner Hall

Wayne King, “The Waltz King,”
and his famous orchestra will make an appearance at Turner
Hall in Watertown Thursday night, Feb. 6, when they play for a dance at
Turner Hall. ,
King is making a
number of dance appearances in this part of the state before going to Chicago
where he will close the Aragon, once the world’s most beautiful ballroom which
has been sold and is to be transferred into a roller rink.
King played at the
Aragon for one of its longest run engagements and was selected as the band to
bring its brilliant operation to a close.
The Turners have
placed advance tickets for the Watertown engagement on sale at the Buffalo Inn,
the East Gate Inn, the Hafemeister Furniture Store, Hiway 16 Furniture Store and Guyer’s
Music Store. Tickets also will be sold at Turner Hall on Wednesday and Sunday
evenings when their public dances are held. Advance tickets are $1.75 per person. Tickets will also be available at the box
office the night of the dance.
For over 25 years,
Wayne King and his orchestra have been placing their most memorable melodies on
wax.
That the music of
Wayne King has not been forgotten and will remain in the spotlight, was
emphasized at the presidential inaugural ball for President Dwight D.
Eisenhower. The Wayne King Orchestra was
among the musical organizations playing for the ball.
As Wayne King made
waltz music famous, his own fame grew in proportion. Radio broadcasting sent his stock soaring, and
for seven straight years, the Wayne King program was voted the number one
musical show on the air.
During the late
forties, as the new baby giant of the entertainment world, television, came
into being, Wayne King and his music moved to it quickly. The Wayne King Show on NBC-TV, originating in
Chicago, became an instant hit. The
Chicago Federation of Advertising Clubs selected the Wayne King Show as the
best musical show on TV for two consecutive years, 1950 and 1951.
This will be Wayne King’s first appearance with his dance band in Watertown and will probably afford the only opportunity people from this area will have to dance to his music in Watertown’s Turner Hall.
