Another landmark is disappearing - the old Gillet home at the corner of Second and Milwaukee street,
workmen being busily engaged in taking it down and removing the debris. The
property was recently purchase by the Riverside Land Co. which will erect two
modern residences on the lots for rental purposes or for sale on the
installment plan.
When the old house was erected way back, possibly in
the territorial days, it evidently was one of the best in the village of
Watertown at that time. Under the old roof there was no doubt mirth, joy and
sorrow and if the old house could talk it would tell of hopes and ambitions
some of which have been realized, - others not. It would tell of loves that
were sacred and sorrows that tore the hearts of the sufferers, and of
experiences that were pathetic in the extreme.
