Verlin Williams

1912 - 2009

 

Verlin G. Williams, 96, a longtime resident of Watertown, passed away Thursday morning, Jan. 8, 2009, at Marquardt Memorial Manor in Watertown, where he had been a resident since April 2003.

 

Verlin was born in Beaver Dam on Oct. 8, 1912, son of George and Mary (Bushke) Williams.  He graduated from St. Henry Catholic Grade School and was a lifetime member of St. Henry Catholic Church in Watertown.

 

Verlin worked in the Civilian Conservation Corp. at various Wisconsin State Parks in 1932 and 1933.  He joined the Merchant Marines in 1934 and served for eight years.  He moved back to Watertown where he was employed at the former Biefeldt Mfg. and later by McKay Nursery.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.

 

Verlin is survived by his sister, Vivian Schlueter of Neenah, along with nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Evelyn Busch and June Baumann.

 

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at St. Henry Catholic Cemetery in Watertown with Father Brian Wilk officiating.

 

There will be no visitation.  A memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date.

 

The family wishes to express a thank you to the staff at Marquardt Memorial Manor for the exceptional care they gave Verlin.
