Carrie M. Welter

1926 - 2011

 

APPLETON — Carrie M. (Duthie) Welter, 84, of Appleton, was taken home to her Lord and savior after an extended illness at St. Elizabeth Hospital on Saturday, April 30, 2011.

 

She was born on May 28, 1926, the daughter of the late Robert and Carrie (Snyder) Duthie.  On May 4, 1946, she married Leander “Lee” Welter.  He preceded her in death in 1984.

 

Carrie was a clerk in the 1960s at a variety store in Watertown and managed the Road Star Apartments with her husband on Spencer Street in Appleton until the mid-1980s.  Carrie was proud to be a member of the Resident Council at Franciscan Care Center.  She enjoyed playing cribbage and sheepshead, bingo, bowling and other group activities.

 

Carrie is survived by her children, Marie (Steve) Hose of Appleton and Lee T. (Kathy) Welter of Almond; grandchildren, Tonya (Frank) Topor, Jessica (Shaun) Luehring, Andrew (Jessica) Hose and Sonya Welter; great-grandchildren, Kailey, Casey and Chase Luehring and Gavin, Elijah and Dominick Hose; and sister-in-law, Ann (Warren) Doty of Arizona.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee; a son, Robert O. Welter; and an infant great-granddaughter, Angel.

 

A celebration of Carrie’s life will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 1617 W. Pine St., Appleton, with Father Jim Vanden Hoag officiating.  Friends will be received at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass.  Burial will be in St. Henry’s Cemetery, Watertown.

 

The family extends a special thank you to the staff at Appleton Health Care Center, formerly Franciscan Care, and the staff at St. Elizabeth Hospital for their compassionate, warm and spiritual care.
