Eugene R. Weis

1935 - 2008

 

JEFFERSON - Eugene R. “Gene” Weis, 73, of Jefferson, died on Monday, Nov. 10, 2008, at home.

 

He was born on June 17, 1935, in Berlin, son of the late Rudolph and Mildred (Bremer) Weis.  Gene married Grace Stangler of Watertown on June 20, 1953, at St. Henry Catholic Church in Watertown.

 

Gene was an operating engineer at Weis Excavating for 43 years and most recently worked part-time for the town of Aztalan.

 

Gene was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Lake Mills and served on the maintenance commission for several years. He enjoyed farming, auctions and giving the grandchildren rides on the Gator.

 

Survivors include his wife, Grace; their children, Jolene (David) Ward and Sandra (Terry) Hein, both of Lake Mills, Catherine (Randy) Kuhl of Waterloo, Nancy (Rob) McMurry of Waukesha, Terri (Randy) Johnson of Mukwonago, Thomas (Monica) Weis of Delafield, Jon (Suzanna) Weis of Waukesha and Mary Maida of Nashotah; a son-in-law, Roy Mitchell of Milwaukee; 23 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, George (Martha) Weis of Spring Hill, Fla.; one sister, Miriam Houk of Mukwonago; nieces, nep-hews, other relatives and friends.

 

Also preceding in death were four children, Denise “Dennie” Mitchell, Michael, Timothy and Anita; two brothers, Wally and Donald; and two sisters, Ruth Auchtung and Doris Merrill.

 

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Lake Mills with Father Robert Hughes as celebrant.

 

Burial will be in St. Henry's Catholic Cemetery, Watertown.

 

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Claussen Funeral Home in Lake Mills and after 10 a.m. on Friday at the church. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Thursday.

 

If desired, memorials may be made to the church or Rainbow Hospice Inc. of Jefferson.
