Harold F. Barrett

1926 - 2008

 

 

Harold F. Barrett, 81, of Watertown, passed away Wednesday evening, May 7, 2008, at Watertown Memorial Hospital.

 

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Henry Catholic Church in Watertown with Father Brian Wilk officiating. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Catholic Cemetery, with graveside military rites.

 

Visitation will be held at the Hafemeister Funeral Home on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m., with a scripture service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will also be held at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass.

 

Memorials may be directed to St. Henry Catholic Church or the American Cancer Society.

 

Harold was born in Marinette on June 21, 1926, son of Arthur and Clara (Menard) Barrette. He attended high school in Crivitz and entered the United States Navy in 1944. Harold served 26 months in the South Pacific going through the Philippine campaign and serving on the USS Boise.

 

Harold married the former Elizabeth “Betty” Vollmer on Aug. 30, 1947, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Crivitz.  She preceded him in death on Jan. 13, 2005.

 

Harold had been employed with the Milwaukee Railroad for 42 years, retiring on June 30, 1985, as a roadmaster. He was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church in Watertown, a life member of Watertown Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7852 and the Watertown American Legion Post No. 189. For 11 years, Harold had been a member of the transit committee and police and fire commission for the city of Watertown.

 

Harold enjoyed spending time with his family and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan.

 

Survivors include his children, James (Ruthann) Barrett of Upper St. Clair, Pa., Mary Lou (James) Krueger of Watertown and Joanne (Edward) Schmidt of Watertown; seven grandchildren, Travis Schmidt, Brian (Erin) Schmidt, Susan (Paul) Tater, Matthew (fianceé, Casey Hoffman) Krueger, Kathryn (Andrew) Daugs, Allison Schmidt and Jennifer Krueger; four great-grandchildren, Alexis and Jacob Tater, Gabrielle and Brayden Schmidt; a sister-in-law, Edith Barrette of Madison; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

He was also preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, George, Lawrence and Raymond Barrette, and a sister, Gladys Thibadeau.

 

Harold was the last member of his immediate family.
