Florence E. Sweeney, 94, of Watertown, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 29, 2019, at Marquardt Health Center.

 

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at Hafemeister Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Bezanson officiating.  Relatives and friends may gather at the funeral home from noon until the time of the service.  Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Watertown.  Memorials, if desired, would be appreciated to the Marquardt Foundation.

 

Hafemeister Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Watertown is serving the family.

 

Florence Evelyn Blegen was born on December 28, 1924, to Peter and Leona (nee Wilcox) Blegen in Cuba City, WI.  After earning her teaching certificate, she taught in a one room school in the Spring Valley area before marrying Leo Sweeney.

 

Florence took great pride in raising her 13 children. She enjoyed her involvement in the community and the friends she made over the years. She was the President and held other offices in the following organizations: Christian Mothers, American Field Service, AARP, Hospital Auxiliary, and the Watertown Saturday Club for over 20 years. In her 50’s she took Arthur Murray dance lessons and performed for audiences in Showcases. She enjoyed listening to music, attending the Theatre, traveling, and reading.

 

She is survived by her 13 children: Kay Sweeney and Mary Ardissone, both of Fitchburg; Bob Sweeney of Madison; Carol (Mike) Fields of Austin, TX; Pat Werner of Watertown; Jack Sweeney of Madison; Joe Sweeney and Jerry Sweeney, both of Watertown; Bill Sweeney of Madison; Ann (Rich) Nienow of Watertown; Linda Sweeney of Seattle, WA; Janet (Brian) Heimer of Ixonia; Jean (Steve) Kohlhoff of Watertown; 24 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; one sister, Jean Yagobian of Phoenix, AZ; and other relatives and friends.

 

She was preceded in death by her former husband Leo Sweeney; her parents; three grandsons; one sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy (Harold “Butch”) Olson; one daughter-in-law, Amy Sweeney; and a brother-in-law, Jack Yagobian.
