Robert Schmidt

1924 - 2008

 

Robert L. N. Schmidt, 84, of Watertown, passed away on Monday, Nov. 24, 2008, at his home.

 

Robert was born on March 30, 1924, in Akron, Iowa, the son of Robert C. and Elizabeth (Groehler) Schmidt.

 

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943 to 1946.

 

He married the former Carol King on Sept. 20, 1948.  She preceded him in death on June 17, 1990.

 

Bob had been employed by the Milwaukee Road as a communications engineer for 40 years.

 

He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, American Legion Post No. 189, Watertown Elks Lodge No. 666 and the Isaak Walton League where he was an avid recycler.

 

Survivors include his children, Guy R. (Pamela) Schmidt of Watertown and Gaye (Dan) Schmidt-Larimer of Bonney Lake, Wash.; two grandchildren, Blake and Troy Larimer; sisters and brothers, Lucille Lenius of Watertown, Margaret Hachbarth of Watertown, Olitha Kiffmiler of Saginaw, Mich., Lloyd Schmidt of Delavan and Brent Schmidt of Watertown; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

He was further preceded in death by a son, Jeff Schmidt; his parents; his sisters Rose Graf and Eleanor Piper; and his brothers August, Elmer, Martin and Arthur Schmidt.

 

A memorial services will be held on Friday at 6 p.m. at Schmutzler-Vick Funeral Home and Cremation Service with Pastor James Werner officiating.  Family burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

 

Family and friends may call the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 6 p.m.  Memorials to Rainbow Hospice would be appreciated.
