Ruby Nellins
1904 - 2008
Ruby Nellins, 103, of Fort Atkinson, died Sunday, April 6, 2008, at the Black Hawk Senior Residence in Fort Atkinson.
Ruby was born Dec. 29, 1904, in Wallingford, Iowa, daughter of Odd T. and Emma (Larson) Akre. She married Richard Nellins on June 24, 1931, in South Milwaukee. He preceded her in death on March 30, 1985.
Ruby graduated from Columbus High School in 1922 and from Columbia County Normal School in 1923. In 1925, Ruby graduated from Milwaukee State Normal School, now known as the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She was a teacher in the Milwaukee Public School System for 23 years, until her retirement in 1947.
Ruby was a charter member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Atkinson. She was a member of Martha Chapter No 66, Order of Eastern Star and a Mother Advisor of Order of Rainbow for Girls Assembly No. 3 in 1952 and 1953.
Surviving are a half brother, Robert Tschohl of Las Vegas, Nev.; four nephews, James Akre of South Milwaukee, John Tschohl of Fort Atkinson, William (Patricia) Tschohl of Bedford, Va., and Paul (Ann) Tschohl of Fort Collins, Colo.; two nieces, Barbara (Thomas) Lanoway and Anita Tschohl, both of Fort Collins.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
It was Ruby's wishes that no services or visitation were to be held. After cremation, burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery in Watertown.
Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Faith Community Church, Opportunities Inc. of Jefferson County for its Leisure Time Program, or to Fort Memorial Hospital's Lifeline Program.
