John L. Kasten

1958- 2014

 

FORT ATKINSON — John L. Kasten, 56, of Fort Atkinson, formerly of Watertown, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014.

 

John was born in Watertown on Feb. 7, 1958, to Russell and Leona Kasten, the youngest of three sons. He was an active member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church of Watertown and was confirmed in 1996.  John worked at Opportunities Inc. of Fort Atkinson his entire adult life.  It was John’s goal to help in any way he could and he loved to seek opportunities to serve.  Not only was he a longtime participant and a competitor in many events, but John was a champion Special Olympics athlete and was proud of the many medals he had won over the years — especially in bowling.  John was loved by many and will be missed.

 

Survivors include his brothers Robert (Lori) Kasten of Tigard, Ore., and Allen (Roxanne) Kasten of Severn, M.D.; a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

John is preceded in death by his parents.

 

The family asks that memorials be made to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church of Watertown.

 

Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday at Pederson-Nowatka Funeral Home with the Rev. Karl Walther of St. Mark’s presiding.  Visitation will be Thursday from 5 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.  Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery.
