John Frey

1822-1900

 

One of the early business men of this city, John Frey, died Thursday afternoon at his home, 400 North Third street, aged 78 years.  

 

Deceased was a native of Wallhausen, Germany, and emigrated to the United States in 1849.  After a residence of five years in New York City and New Jersey, he came West and located in Milwaukee, which was his home for one year and then he took up his permanent abode in this city.

 

For a long period he conducted a bakery at the corner of North Second and Madison streets, retiring from business some fifteen years ago.  He was a man of strict integrity and high character, and possessed the esteem and respect of all who knew him.

 

He is survived by two sons, Emil, of Minneapolis, and Charles, this city.

 

The funeral was held Monday morning from St. Henry’s church, of which the deceased was a consistent member.      The Watertown Republican, 24 Oct 1900

Helena Frey

1886 - 1915

 

Mrs. Helena Frey died on Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1915, at the home of her son Charles E. Frey, 400 North Third Street.  Deceased was the widow of the late John Frey, her maiden name bring Helena Schaefer.  She was born on August 7, 1886, in Brandenburg, Germany, and at the age of 20 years she came to America, locating in in Watertown, and two years later was marred to her late husband, who died on October 18, 1900.  Two sons survive her, being Emil Frey of Minneapolis and Chas. E. Frey of this city; also five grandchildren survive her.

 

Mrs. Frey’s death is sincerely mourned in Watertown and vicinity by a large acquaintance, all of whom held her in very high esteem, for she was a lady possessed of a beautiful character and one who at all times led a truly Christian life.  Her funeral will be held from her late home at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon, and the interment will be in Oak Hill cemetery.  Rev. H. Sterz will conduct the funeral services.  Friends are requested to omit flowers.
