Ruth Benzel

1900 - 2004

 

Ruth F. Benzel, 104, of Waterloo, formerly of Watertown, died August 31, 2004, at Highland House in Waterloo of old age.

 

Funeral services were at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Watertown with the Rev. Norman E. Wall officiating.  Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.

 

Memorials were suggested to Highland House of Waterloo, Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Watertown or the charity of one's choice.

 

The former Ruth F. Winkenwerder was born June 27, 1900, in Richwood, daughter of William and Laura (Lehman) Winkenwerder. She married Eric Benzel on July 16, 1921, in Milwaukee.

 

Ruth attended Watertown schools and had been secretary at Nowack Funeral Home, now Pederson Funeral Home, for 17 years. She also worked at Albrecht's Paint Store and Emerson Oil Company.

 

Ruth was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was also a member and past president of the ladies auxiliary of American Legion Post No. 189.

 

Ruth was a very loving and friendly person.  She loved doing things for others and had a number of hobbies, including making pinecone wreaths, growing roses, making quilts and baking.
