Christian Becker

1851 - 1903

 

Christian Becker, grocer; born in Watertown February 10, 1851; son of John and Margaret Becker who came here in 1847.

 

John Becker was born in Germany; came to America in 1834; he lived in New York City and Albany, N. Y., until he came to Watertown.  He held office of Alderman, City Treasurer, Supervisor and various other important positions.  His death occurred in May, 1875.

 

Christian Becker has been engaged in present business since he was a youth of 14 years.  On Sept. 7, 1873, he married Kate Thauer; she was born in the town of Emmet, Dodge Co., Wis.; they have one son, John N., born Dec. 7, 1877; lost a daughter, Amelia, who died at the age of 13 months.  Mr. Becker is Secretary of the Fire Department and Treasurer of the Pioneer Fire Company.

 

Buried in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Information listed regarding Christian and Kate Becker's offspring is incorrect.   They had seven children, two died in infancy.   Ida, Nell, Evelyn, William, and Cathryn were the children that survived to adulthood.  William Christian Becker, became a physician.  He had one son, John H. Becker.

Christian Becker and George Thauer ran a grocery, crockery and agricultural implement store

on “east side of W. Water, 4 north of West Ave (W. Main)”     121-123 N. Water is assumed
