Alvin A. Bartz
1945- 2016
Alvin A. Bartz, 70, of Watertown, passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2016, at UW Hospital and Clinics in Madison.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 5 p.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Watertown with the Rev. Michael Jensen officiating. Burial with military graveside rites will take place on Friday at 10 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Watertown. Family and friends may gather at the church on Thursday from 2 p.m. until the time of services.
Memorials to the family would be gratefully appreciated.
Alvin Arnold Bartz was born on Dec. 30, 1945, in Columbus, the son of Julius and Mary (nee Pugh) Bartz. He was a 1964 graduate of Waterloo High School. Alvin served in the United States Army in Vietnam from 1968-1970. On June 7, 1974, he married Karen Kohlmetz. He had been employed as a maintenance man at Northwestern College, Waterloo School District, Lakeside Lutheran High School as well as Watertown city hall and Watertown Senior Center . He also had been employed by Cummings Silos and farmed with his father-in-law. Alvin was a member of St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Watertown, where he served on the church council, building and grounds committee and the welcoming committee.
Alvin is survived by his wife, Karen Bartz of Watertown; children, Amanda Margaret (Nate) Webb of Watertown and Jessica Mary (Dakota Brittain) Bartz of Jasper, Indiana; as well as grandchildren, Sarahlyn Elizabeth Webb, Patrick James Webb and soon-to-be granddaughter, Dylan Bartz. He is further survived by three brothers, Arden (Barbra) Bartz of Venice, Florida, Robert (Darlene) Bartz of Eau Claire, Michigan, and Charles (Lois) Bartz of Watertown; sister, Carol (Azella) Bartz of Sequim, Washington; sister-in-law, Dolly Bartz of Lake Mills; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Robert and Margaret (nee Beske) Kohlmetz and Robert and Ruth (nee Kloehn) Logan; brothers, Donald, Leonard, Carl, Clarence and William Bartz; sister in infancy, Elizabeth Bartz; sisters-in-law, Margaret Logan and Sharon Logan; brother-in-law in infancy, Douglas Logan; as well as son-in-law, Todd Richter.
Our family would like to take this opportunity to thank the doctors and nurses at the UW Hospital in Madison as well as the donating family that provided us with an additional 10 years with Alvin after he received his lung transplant on July 24, 2006.

Karen S. Bartz, age 64, of Watertown, passed away on Tuesday, Jan.
2, 2018, at Marquardt Health Center in Watertown.
Funeral services
will be held on Friday at 5 p.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Watertown
with the Rev. Karl Walther officiating. Private family burial will take place
at Oak Hill Cemetery in
Watertown at a later date. Family and friends may gather at the church on
Friday from 4 p.m. until the time of the service. Memorials to the family would

Karen Sue (Logan) Kohlmetz was born on Feb. 22, 1953, in Watertown, the
daughter of Robert and Margaret (nee Beske) Kohlmetz. On June 7, 1974, she married Alvin A. Bartz. Alvin preceded her in death on July 30, 2016. Karen
was a member of St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Watertown. She had
dairy farmed with her father and husband. She enjoyed camping and spending time
with her family, especially her grandchildren. Her husband Alvin had received a
left lung donation and she was blessed to have him in her life for an
additional 10 years. Karen would like to send blessings to the donor’s family,
whoever they may be, for this great gift of life.
Karen is survived by
her children, Amanda Margaret (Nate) Webb of Watertown, Jessica Mary (Dakota Brittain) Bartz of Jasper,
Indiana, as well as grandchildren, Sarahlyn Elizabeth
Webb, Patrick James Webb and Dylan Rosalie Brittain.
She is further survived by son-in-law, Daniel Klemp;
brothers-in-law, Robert (Darlene) Bartz of Eau Claire, Michigan, and Charles (Lois) Bartz of Watertown; sisters-in-law, Barbra Bartz of Venice, Florida, Carol (Azella)
Bartz of Sequim, Washington, and Dolly Bartz of Jefferson; best friend of 58 years, Bonnie Kline;
and cousins, Karen and Diane. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert
and Margaret (nee Beske) Kohlmetz;
birth parents, Robert and Ruth (nee Kloehn) Logan;
parents-in-law, Julius and Mary (nee Pugh) Bartz;
sisters, Margaret Logan and Sharon Logan; brother, Douglas Logan; son-in-law,
Todd Richter; niece, Debbi Wright; as well as nephews, Randy Logan Jr. and Paul
Bartz.
The family would
like to give a special thank you to the staff at Marquardt Health Center for
their wonderful care.
