John Hertel

1950-2012

 

_Pic2John Edward Hertel, age 61, died on Sunday, May 6, 2012, in Wausau.

 

He was born on Sept. 8, 1950, in Watertown, to Mathias and Loretta (Vorlob) Hertel.  John was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin– Madison.  He was a mechanical engineer for over 30 years at Pratt and Whitney.

 

On May 26, 1983, he married Purisima “Baby” Tandoy in the Philippines.  John loved fishing with his nephew, Christopher.  He was an avid sports fan, enjoying the Brewers, Twins and Packers.  John was a baseball coach and umpire for over eight years. He enjoyed gardening with mom, scrabble, crosswords and sudoku.  John treasured his walks to the park with Lola and the grandkids, Melinda and Timmy.  He was a devoted member of St. Henry Catholic Church and sang in the choir. 

 

John is survived by his wife, four children, Ana Lisa (Mike) Murphy of Rib Mountain, Patrick, Mathias and Loreta Hertel all of Minneapolis; two grandchildren, Melinda and Timothy Murphy; five brothers, David (Lynette) of Watertown, Joseph (Ellyn) of Madison, James (Joann) of Watertown, Michael (Nena) of Watertown and Peter (Kerri) of Madison; Leo, his beloved dog; and other relatives and friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert.

 

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 114 S. Church St., at 11 a.m. on Saturday, with Monsignor Daniel Ganshert officiating.  Burial will be held at St. Henry Cemetery.  A visitation will be held at Schmutzler¬Vick Funeral Home on Friday, from 4 to 7 p.m. and then again at church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass.
