John C Novotny Claims

Margaret Surdick as Bride

1948

 

A nuptial mass was performed June 12 in St. Henry's.  John C. Novotny, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. John C. Novotny, 414 Humboldt Street, claimed as his bride, Miss Margaret Surdick, daughter of Mrs. Rose Surdick, 300 North Fourth Street. The Rev. A. H. Foltz officiated at the ceremony.

 

The bride was given in marriage by her uncle, Edwin Richter.

 

The bride chose for her matron of honor her sister, Mrs. Oscar B Schmutzler, Jr.  Margaret's other attendants were: Miss Frances Novotny, sister of the groom, Joan Winkler cousin of the bride, Henrietta Novotny, sister of the bridegroom, and Patsy Erickson, cousin of the bride.

 

Susan Engelhardt was flower girl and Dick Wicker was ring bearer.

 

Oscar E. Schmutzler, Jr., served as best man. Mr. Novotny's other attendants were Lyle Riedl, James Brown, James Loukota and Larry Richter.

 

The bridegroom was an employee of the Rock River Consumer's Coop.

 

They made their home at 201 West Cady Street.

Plan open house for John and Peg Novotny

 

John C. Jr. and Margaret "Peg" E. Novotny, 56 Morning Dove Drive, Watertown, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on Saturday at N708 N. Water St.  The open house celebration will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. and is hosted by their children.

 

John and the former Margaret Surdick exchanged wedding vows on June 12, 1948, at St. Henry’s Catholic Church.  The ceremony was conducted by the Rev. A. H. Foltz.

 

Attending the couple were Francie Arndt, Joan Winkler, Patsy Erickson, Lyle Riedl, Sue Englehart, Dick Wicker and the late Oscar "Hap" and Kate Schmutzler, Henrietta Novotny, Larry Richter, Jim Brown, Jim Loukata, Tony Surdick and Charlie Novotny.

 

The couple have eight children, Rose (Fred) Zastrow, Grace (Ed) Wegner, Joe Novotny, Rich (Renee) , Novotny and Ed (Tammy) Novotny, all of Watertown, Bob   Novotny of Keil, Mary (Keith) Blaisdell of Cornell and John (Lorrie) of Rice Lake. Two daughters, Cathy and Linda, are deceased.

 

The couple have 27 grandchildren.  A grandchild is deceased.  There are 33 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
