Kenneth and Phyllis Buss to mark 50th wedding anniversary

 

Kenneth H. and Phyllis Buss of Watertown will observe their 50th wedding anniversary on Feb. 11.

 

Ken married the former Phyllis Poppert on Feb. 11, 1961, at St. Henry Catholic Church in Watertown.  Performing the ceremony was the Rev. Anthony J. Herrmann.

 

The maid of honor was Mary Monzel, with Judy (Foltz) Bliese as bridesmaid.  Best man was James Clifford.  Curtiss Buss, brother of the groom, was the groomsman.  Ushers included

John Poppert Jr., brother of the bride, and the late Roger Buss, brother of the groom.

 

Ken had served in the United States Air Force . The couple had owned and operated one of the first laundry services in Watertown, the Easy Wash Laundry, for more than 20 years.  He built the Wig-Wam Beauty Post for Phyllis, a hair stylist, which she owned and operated for 30 years.  She also had a line of makeup, Felecia’s Faces, and the first toning and tanning salon in Watertown, Nu-Weigh Toning Salon.  The tanning salon operated with the beauty salon.

 

After selling the laundry, Ken had been employed at OSI Manufacturing in New Berlin for 20 years before retiring.  Phyllis sold the salon and has been working at Orbis Corp. in Oconomowoc for the past 14 years.

 

The couple have a son, Craig.  A son, Dean, is deceased.

 

There are five grandchildren.

 

The couple are planning an anniversary trip up north, where they spent their honeymoon 50 years ago.
